SPORE!

Well leave it to Maxis to come up with one hell of a game. For those of you who haven't played this game yet, you're missing out. It's available on the PC/MAC and Nintendo DS (though there are rumors of 360/PS3/Wii in the near future. There's also in theory an expansion pack called "cute and creepy parts" due out in November. Here's the gist of the game if you've been living under a rock;

Spore is a multi-genre massive single-player online metaverse video game developed by Maxis and designed by Will Wright. It allows a player to control the evolution of a species from its beginnings as a unicellular organism, through development as an intelligent and social creature, to interstellar exploration as a spacefaring culture. It has drawn wide attention for its massive scope, and its use of open-ended gameplay and procedural generation.
(Quote: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spore_(game))

It's hard to say this fits into one single game category, its got a little bit of everything in there (with the exception of sports, FPS, and horror.) Depending on your actions you unlock various traits, such as "Everyones BFF". The sound effects, and music are well suited to the game and a couple of times completely surprised me. In the Tribal stage-if you send a gift of food to an opposing tribe you're accompanied by Mexican Fiesta style music (ala Herp Albert) which made for a couple of chuckles. The graphics are bright and colorful, the only real complaint I had was the textures for the various buildings/vehicles as they stretch out and the patterns become huge which look very unappealing. Otherwise the ability to design your own houses, factories, entertainment complexes, space ships, cars, creatures, really fulfills so many avenues.

I played Sims for awhile and I found myself enjoying the house construction aspect far more than the actual people control. I played steady for a good two-three weeks before I quickly realized how pointless it was-as I had a kid and I was married.. and I worked full time. Why in the hell am I playing it on a computer as well? But, with SPORE they make the creation aspects as easy and important as any other part of the game which was a wonderful addition. Plus the endless possible combinations of parts makes for hours and hours of play time.

I sit there playing the space section and I find myself thinking of Ascendancy or Masters of Orion in some ways but WAY better. The system of flying from system to system and landing on planets is so simple and easy it makes one wonder why no one else had done this so well before. The only game I can think of that came close was Starflight 1 and 2 (Old PC game).

Is this a perfect game? Pretty much, yes. As I say my only complaint is the slight issues with graphics in the texture departments (and the lack of more colors for painting vehicles and buildings) but really its kind of a moot argument. Combine all the wonderful features plus the ability to load up all your creations (animals and non alike) onto the internet to share with others.

Over all score? 4.8/5 This is an amazing game and you shouldn't miss out on it.

Note: I apologize for the lack of photos but my internet is bogging and it would take me days to put up images.

So I don't know if anyone is still even haunting this joint. But here goes.

So i'm all psyched about Fallout 3. Yes it's due out October 28th so there's still plenty of time to run out and pre-order your copy of the regular or limited edition. I HAD pre-registered for the limited edition a month ago, and while they quoted me a price of 49.99 that has since changed and I have had to drop it. IT jacked up to a whopping 85.99 for the limited edition and 59.99 for the regular. Now as much as I love the extras for the limited (bobble head Pip boy, metal lunch box, alarm clock, art book.) Is it really worth the 25 dollars? Perhaps. I told the guy at the counter if I had paid in full ahead of time and gone into pick up my game but the price had been changed I would have been PISSED. Anyone have this happen to them?

And did anyone hit up the xbox 360 deal at Walmart? The one that had the core unit, with a game and a memory card for 177.00? Or the DS's for 99.00?

Alright, trying to revive this damned community.  Let's talk Emus..  Which ones are you using and what are you playing the most?

Currently i'm addicted, mostly due to my daughter playing the cartridge version.  GBA emulator, More Friends of Mineral Town.  She's playing Friends of Mineral Town and now i'm hooked on this farming sim.  Dammit.  That and one of the Castlevania titles, I have been missing out on these.  Holy, they changed ALOT since the old NES version titles.  I mean its still alot like the original, in the same sense the Zelda series is still true to its roots but I like the updates.

Also, please please tell me if anyone actually enjoys the GBA Kingdom Hearts game.  Honestly, I find it incredibly frustrating and annoying.

OR just post any secrets/quirks with your FOMT game.  I got to level 9 in the Winter Mine with the pond level, but mysteriously I cannot find the stairs to go any lower.  I'm half wondering if its the ROM i'm using.

Also.  What new titles are you excited about?

Anyone playing any new PS3 or Xbox 360 titles?  IF so please do a review.
Plus.  Anyone seen anything on the new PSP 2?

Okay.. okay so I admit i'm behind in the times lately with new games and all. But i'm a huge fan of the whole Fallout series. (with the exception of the released title on the xbox having never played it.) And so I, like so many others have been awaiting the release of Fallout 3.

http://fallout.bethsoft.com/eng/art/fallout3-conceptart1.html

Now this being said, I can't determine from all the hype if this will only be an xbox 360 release or also on the PC. Generally speaking they release on both-no? Either way I may end up having to upgrade, I am disappointed though that they're switching to a first person shooter perspective ala Elder Scrolls. As cool as they are, I think in some ways it'll take away from the feel of the Fallout series but add in other ways. I was amazed with the Call of Cthulhu game and the end result there so who knows, it looks damned gorgeous to look at and the fact its located in Washington DC. Nice to see they had a change of coast line, I really like following the storyline and finding out the state of the various places after the nukes. Too bad they don't find a European vault to play with.

Anyone else psyched about this game or am I alone in this fanboy love?

EDIT-I'm such an idiot, I re-read all the features of the game and you can switch back and forth. How DAMN awesome is that?!?! And you can pause in the middle of a fight to target specific areas to plug rounds into. SWEET!

That super mario cake I posted the picture of previously, I finally found a reference to the site the picture came from. It was mentioned in IGM magazine, the site is called gamecakes.com they feature about 20 or so cakes ranging from consoles to themes to even Links shield. Take a lookie see.

And in honour of Halo 3, don't forget to jet over to redvsblue.com and take a look at the weekly comics. Some are very funny. Even though the series is now complete, the archives are still worthy of a peek.

So, how common is this-is it as bad as it sounds? And how many of you have come into contact with this horrible ailment?

well if anyone is going to care about this, they'll care about it here.

I've been grinding the hell out of gw:en and not only is is very fun but it feels similar to when diablo 2 got it's expansion.

Anyone else been playing this?
