Well leave it to Maxis to come up with one hell of a game. For those of you who haven't played this game yet, you're missing out. It's available on the PC/MAC and Nintendo DS (though there are rumors of 360/PS3/Wii in the near future. There's also in theory an expansion pack called "cute and creepy parts" due out in November. Here's the gist of the game if you've been living under a rock;

Spore is a multi-genre massive single-player online metaverse video game developed by Maxis and designed by Will Wright. It allows a player to control the evolution of a species from its beginnings as a unicellular organism, through development as an intelligent and social creature, to interstellar exploration as a spacefaring culture. It has drawn wide attention for its massive scope, and its use of open-ended gameplay and procedural generation.

It's hard to say this fits into one single game category, its got a little bit of everything in there (with the exception of sports, FPS, and horror.) Depending on your actions you unlock various traits, such as "Everyones BFF". The sound effects, and music are well suited to the game and a couple of times completely surprised me. In the Tribal stage-if you send a gift of food to an opposing tribe you're accompanied by Mexican Fiesta style music (ala Herp Albert) which made for a couple of chuckles. The graphics are bright and colorful, the only real complaint I had was the textures for the various buildings/vehicles as they stretch out and the patterns become huge which look very unappealing. Otherwise the ability to design your own houses, factories, entertainment complexes, space ships, cars, creatures, really fulfills so many avenues.

I played Sims for awhile and I found myself enjoying the house construction aspect far more than the actual people control. I played steady for a good two-three weeks before I quickly realized how pointless it was-as I had a kid and I was married.. and I worked full time. Why in the hell am I playing it on a computer as well? But, with SPORE they make the creation aspects as easy and important as any other part of the game which was a wonderful addition. Plus the endless possible combinations of parts makes for hours and hours of play time.

I sit there playing the space section and I find myself thinking of Ascendancy or Masters of Orion in some ways but WAY better. The system of flying from system to system and landing on planets is so simple and easy it makes one wonder why no one else had done this so well before. The only game I can think of that came close was Starflight 1 and 2 (Old PC game).

Is this a perfect game? Pretty much, yes. As I say my only complaint is the slight issues with graphics in the texture departments (and the lack of more colors for painting vehicles and buildings) but really its kind of a moot argument. Combine all the wonderful features plus the ability to load up all your creations (animals and non alike) onto the internet to share with others.

Over all score? 4.8/5 This is an amazing game and you shouldn't miss out on it.

Note: I apologize for the lack of photos but my internet is bogging and it would take me days to put up images.
